The experienced IodaRacing Team rider was delighted to make the podium in Germany

Alex de Angelis finished Sunday’s Race 2 at Lausitzring in second place behind winner Jonathan Rea and the result marked the IodaRacing Team rider’s first podium since joining the WorldSBK championship – and his first podium since his heavy crash last year in MotoGP™ at Motegi.

The 32 year-old worked hard last winter to come back to racing after his accident in Japan which left him with several fractured ribs and fractured vertebrae, in addition to a lung contusion which saw him spend eight days in intensive care. However, he has pushed hard all season in WorldSBK and in his 18th race in the series he has finally reached the podium.

Speaking at the conclusion of #GermanWorldSBK round after riding his Aprilia RSV4 RF to second in difficult conditions the rider from San Marino commented: “Of course to be on the podium is something amazing. Especially for me because it is my first one in this championship and also because I’m coming back from a very bad accident last year in Japan.”

“It was really a long winter, doing a lot of rehabilitation. I am still not good but it was a really nice race. I’m very happy and I never gave up.”
